Ashley in Action!

This was at Danny & Beth's wedding, testing lighting
Next we got Laura & Matt's engagement shoot...a car was coming! Amy always gets my best angles...
Before I realized I had to move because my legs were in the reflection, oops:)
Sorry to be in the back of your picture, Teisha!
Another of the many Amy has captured of me mid shot.  I've gotten some of her too, she just doesn't know it!

My Turn

Air and Space Museum
Representing our School!  Brigham Young Statue in the Capitol building
Geez, am I really THAT much of a midget next to my husband...compare these two pictures!

Every weekend, all summer (and all last summer for that matter), Carleton has been the one to make the 4+ hour drive to see me.  This weekend I decided to make the trek up to DC to see him.  I totally appreciate his sacrifice so much more now after making the painful drive myself. As much as I love road trips, I've never actually been the one driving.  Until last weekend I think 45 minutes is the farthest I've driven by myself, ever.  I know, it's ridiculous.  Anyway, that all changed this weekend and my back and butt were SCREAMING at me for not being able to adjust more than a few inches.  Once I got there it was great!  We got to spend time with Jen, Christian, and Greta, I hadn't seen them since our wedding!  We also went to the national zoo, the air and space museum (not the one at the mall, the one in Transformers...Carleton loved this one).  We also took a tour of the Capitol building, it was really pretty inside.  I wanted night pictures of Lincoln last time we went but I wasn't able to get them, I couldn't get them this time either as there were hundreds of people there, but I did get some of the Washington Monument.  Carleton and I took our typical picture-me grabbing his neck leaning back, him towering over me, kissing me-to switch it up (mainly for Doreen!) I put the camera on the tripod changed all the settings just the way I wanted them then ran and jumped on Carleton for a slightly different picture:)

Yummy Summer Eatin'

Inspired by some friends at a pool party the other week, Carleton and I decided to make Shish Kabobs for Sunday dinner this week with NC State Fair-style grilled corn.  We also had some yummy fresh peach crisp!  I love getting to see my handsome hubby on the weekends, and it's nice making delicious (and pretty nutritious) food too:)

Proud to be an American!

The Holt's, Connell's, and I all went to DC for the Fourth of July weekend and we had a BLAST!  This summer Carleton is staying at his brother's house in Alexandria and since everyone was out of town we all had a great place to stay for free, even better!  Thank you so much, Christian and Jen!  Most of the people that went had never been to DC so we did all the touristy things, we saw all (or at least a LOT of) the monuments and memorials.  We got to sign an I-beam that is traveling across the US and happened to be in DC two of the days we were there, they're going to make two big waterfall/pools in memory of the people who lost their lives on September 11, you can check it out here.  It was really cool, we even got special 9-11 sharpies as keepsakes, which we used to sign the beam.

Thursday we got in, got grub, and went to the DC temple, Kristin's parents were sealed there and she'd never seen it before.  That's where Carleton and I were planning on getting married but we decided that it would be too much of a hassle and we'd just get married in Apex instead.  This one is special to me because it was the first temple I'd ever been in.  We walked Georgetown, saw a townhouse for sale, Carleton went home and priced it, 3.99 million-anyone interested?  We went home to play mexican train but we were all so beat that we decided that could wait til the next night.

On Friday after a long day of sight-seeing we went to a Korean BBQ and ate a lot, it was neat, and really good!  Following dinner we took our first ride on the metro and went to the Nationals vs. Braves MLB game.  We were supposed  to play mexican train, but as you can guess we were all SO tired that we put it off again.

Saturday we saw more sites, like the capital building, the white house, more museums, etc. Then watched the fireworks on the top of Carleton's building (the law building, not his brother's house).  We had a great view of the fireworks, Washington Monument, capital building, and you could see the white house too!  Last year we watched the fireworks on the white house lawn, so it was cool to see a different perspective.  I was so bummed that I forgot my tripod, but I think we still got some pretty sweet shots!  On our way home we blasted "Proud to be an American" and sang our little hearts out.  Oh and don't worry, we were eventually able to play our Mexican train that night:)  I think we may have converted the Holt's!

I'll be posting more of our pictures from the trip here on my picture blog shortly.  We were in Nikon heaven, each couple has one so there was a lot of picture taking, I have narrowed mine down to 388, I'm sure that's less than a third of all the pictures we'll have from this trip!

Enjoy!  Just for the record, I'm still missing my husband a LOT. Only seeing the husband on  weekends makes this wife really sad but I'm extra excited to see him Friday night!

Update: tonight we swapped pictures, so I had to add more, there are a ton of others I'd like to put up here, but these will do:)  Thank you Kristin, Josh, and Ali for more awesome pictures, I can't wait for the next trip!
